OM scientific activity in our school
|
OM is an international innovation initiated by America to develop students’ creativeness. Now it is populous in America, Germany, Russia, Japan, Canada and Singapore, etc, altogether there are more than 30 countries developing OM widely. In 1987, OM was introduced into our country, and immediately welcomed among teenagers. OM is to encourage teenagers’ imaginary and creativeness, to carry collectivism forward, to raise students’ comprehensive qualities through combination of science and art, hands and brain.
OM contest is to cultivate students’ innovation by the process of their solving a challengeable problem with none fixed answer, a team of 7 same aged students work together with collectivism to show their diffusible thought. There are perennial topic and improvisational topic in the contest: after publication of the perennial topic, participants will try to understand the topic’s meaning, decide solving scheme after brain-storm discussion, finally edit their solving manual. Design, make, assembly and modify the prop, practice performance, at last demonstrate their design idea and scientific content through a humorous performance in 8 minutes; improvisational topic is distributed in the contest, requiring students to finish in several minutes, testing the participants’ diffusible thinking ability, division and cooperation ability, practical ability. Every year 5 perennial topics will be distributed from America OM General Department, in Feb. of the following year, contest will be hold in different countries or area, only the first one has the qualification to participate in the international finals in America in May.
Leaders of our school pay great attention to cultivate students’ comprehensive qualities, give too much support to the OM activities. From May of 2000, that’s our first participation, we got great achievements in the contest of different levels, in May of 2004 we took part in the 25th international finals in presentation of Beijing and got the champion in the item of Envirover in junior group’s competition, realizing zero break in the OM international contest.
