To raise students’ comprehensive qualities, our school attach importance to the advantages of extracurricular activities, rich and colorful scientific activities are implemented to raise students’ qualities of science and mentality. In different kinds of scientific activities, astronomy group is an oriflamme. From 1983, through establishment of astronomy extracurricular group, arrangement of selective curriculum in astronomy, a thorough systematic research of scientific experiment has been carried out, and scientific education system as well as extracurricular activity system have been formed. The astronomy group got outstanding achievements in different kinds of contest relating to astronomy in different area in representation of our school. And we are honored Haidian model school of science education.

Our school provide first class equipment and learning space for students’ study and practice, build astronomy station, astronomical phenomena hall, buy large astronomical telescope, edit astronomical programs; telluric classroom, star aisle show different pictures and models, equipments to students. These equipments create conditions for astronomy extracurricular activities. Students study here, recognize starry sky and do astronomy observation, these equipments’ function are fully exerted. Our school organize students to participate in astronomy and geography summer camp, do observation and inspection in the wild with persistent combination in & outside school, in & outside curricular, as well as combination of theory & practice, society & school. Science group go outside our school and country, they once did observation of solar oclipse, lunar oclipse, meteor shower, comet in Henan Anyang, Heilongjiang Mohe, and Thailand, Germany, England. These scientific activities raise students comprehensive qualities and science quality, cultivate students’ ability of observation, thought and practice, also students’ moral quality and spirit of scientific research is cultivated too, responsibility for development of national science career has been built.
