Built in 1991, the wind band now has 120 members, 2 special conductors, 11 guiders and more than 10 musical instruments such as flute, sousaphone, bass etc. It is a big students’ art association with a professional musical classroom equipped high& low voice appliances, sound absorb facility, lights, air conditioner and video.   

In its more than 10 years’ development, leaders of all levels gave many concerns to the wind band. Conductors, Musician from PLA military band, PLA Art College are employed to be regular conductor and guider. Whether in winter or summer, or holidays, students insist on practice, experiencing and creating sweet melody, their collectivism is cultivated, and perfect musical space is built. In 1998, the wind band is called Beijing Golden Sail Band. Now its skill and style as well as cooperation are perfect and adept, 10 domestic and foreign classical operm can be played in high standard. Holding concerts many times, its performance were highly praised and warmly welcomed by audiences. It also took part in students art festival of all levels , in 1995, 1997 and 1999 won the second awards in Beijing students art festival ; in 2001 and 2003, first awards were obtained for western musical instrument tutti in Beijing students art festival. The personal quality of its member was raised continuously, some members got great achievements in monomial contest, chief player of black flute Ma shanshan won the excellent awards in the first national teenagers’ single flute (amateurish group) contest, she also won the first awards in the 6th students art festival of Beijing for solo.

As a band of students’, we update our concept timely, doing new musical trial bravely, making all our efforts to practice, assuming in new term’s performance, going into society, participating in public activity; every year participate in “ the Red May” activity of Zhongguancun street, and important performance task of welcoming National Day and Olympics. Recently, the band deepened its communication with foreign bands, inviting foreign students’ art group to have culture communications, organizing students to come to America, Japan, Korea and Germany for visiting and showing, all these deepened the friendship and build beauty stages for students.
