From Mrs. Xiaoping Xing The Principal
After being accepted as a “Beijing Model Middle School” by the office of Education in 2001, the teachers and students of Zhongguancun Middle School have strived to realize its aim of “a first class school and a first class education” through unity, reform, and hard work. We have built a reputation of excellence by carefully implementing each item the Office of Education highlighted in the application process.
All our efforts were concentrated on developing an excellent corps of teacher and cadres. We work to reinforce our teachers’ moral education and keep our teachers current in teaching methods and concepts. We actively participate in classroom training in order to maintain teaching quality as well as make marked improvement in classroom management and teaching philosophies. Our Administration is also working to reform management and to strengthen democracy within the administration. The administration is also working to improve communication and discussion between teachers in order to develop curriculum and broaden teaching views. One way this is working has been the development of sample curriculum. Sample curriculum helps maintain consistency in all of our classrooms and ensures that our teaching groups are constantly doing research. This effort has even affected the classroom as many teachers are trying a student-teacher interaction teaching method that emphasizes dialogue and active communication in the classroom.
The dominant mission of our school is clear: “to create an education for student development and an arena for students’ success.” One way we achieve this is to provide a healthy learning environment with a range of services to foster students’ physical and mental development. Alongside patriotic education and rule formation activities, students can engage their minds in the creative arts, sciences, and a variety of sports activities. Large construction projects have been undertaken to improve teaching conditions, enhance multimedia capabilities, and attain a create atmosphere to create a multi-faceted, safe, and active learning environment.
During the process of becoming a Model School, excellent advancements have been made in all fields of our work and it has not gone unnoticed. In the past several years our school has received numerous awards including the “Haidian Advance Education Collectivity Award,” the “Haidian Advanced Collectivity Award for Moral Education” the “Haidian Advanced Classroom Subject Award,” and the “Haidian Collectivity Award for Science Activities.” Becoming a “Model School” has promoted the quality of teaching and education in remarkable ways.
Now that we have become a “Beijing Model School,” and one of the premiere secondary schools in Beijing, we have made great strides in our abilities to provide a comprehensive education. After celebrating and enjoying the honor, excitement, and gratification of overcoming these challenges we realize that our achievements are in the past and we must make efforts to continue improving our abilities to provide a quality education. Furthermore, we must recognize current problems and strive to improve them in order to live up to the expectations of students, parents and society. The expectation is no less than excellence, and Zhongguancun Middle School is making every effort to maintain that reputation in our society.
